Cameron Macintosh

We are thrilled to share some great news about Cameron Macintosh. Cam has been selected to perform as part of the 2012 Grammy Jazz Band in Los Angeles! This is a major accomplishment and a huge honor, as the Grammy Band is made up off some of the most talented young musicians from across the country.  We are extremely proud of Cam, all his hard work and what he has accomplished at such a young age. Cam, just 15 years old, started his music training at Mark Murphy's approximately 6 years ago, and has since returned to prepare for the upcoming Grammys.

Last year the Grammy Band performed alongside Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding, and this time around he will be playing at the MusiCares Person of the Year Gala honoring none other than Sir Paul McCartney. The band will spend a week performing with many other celebrities including Anthony Hamilton (2012 Grammy Winner) and Terri Lyne Harrington (past drummer for Herbie Hancock), and will be recording an album at Capitol Records Hollywood which will be available for purchase on Itunes. The week will culminate with their performance at the Official After-Party for the Grammys, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Congratulations Cam from everyone at the studio on this amazing opportunity!

Photo Shoot 2011 with R.Roberts

We had another great Photoshoot with NYC based commercial photographer, Ryan Roberts and got some great photos of our newer teachers as well as students and this time parents as well! We would like to thank everyone that participated and helped us to have such a fun and productive day! While Ryan was busy taking all of these great portraits of us, he also found the time to take a few photos of our school. Here is one that we thought you might like as much as we did!

Back to School!

Welcome back to all returning students, and welcome for the first time to everyone new! We are so happy to jump into yet another great year of lessons, programs and concerts. This year we've announced a very exciting change to the popular Band Program - it will be free of charge! We hope this will enable more students to benefit from this wonderful experience. Band members need only enroll in longer lessons (45 minute or an hour) to qualify for the program. We are also excited to welcome several new teachers to the faculty. So if you see a new face in the hallways this September, help us to give them a very warm welcome! As always, this year we will host concerts by both faculty members and world-renowned guest artists. We are also adding performance opportunities for our student bands all the time! And of course, the recitals will be here before we know it. Here's to another great year of music!

Student Recitals 2011!!!

This weekend we kick off our 2011 Student Recitals! We're so excited to watch all the students perform. Everyone has worked extremely hard all year long, and now we get to see the results of their efforts. The recitals are happening over 2 Sundays this year - June 5th will be in Montclair at Cafe Eclectic and also in South Orange at Sparkhouse Studio, and on June 12th we return to Sparkhouse. Each venue has a casual, relaxed atmosphere where students can feel comfortable performing for their families and friends. It's sure to be a great couple of weekends!

On a similar note, one of our amazing student bands recently played at the Marshall School as part of the Groove on Grove program. They enjoyed performing for a packed house, and signing autographs for their adoring fans! Click here to see the video of their performance.
